A concept design for The Underground, the world Nuut lives in. This is a typical neighbourhood, with a cafe/bar, apartment buildings, and precarious walkways looking out over the near-bottomless depths.

Love the detail and atmosphere. I'm so horrible at coming up with interiors.. exteriors. You name it. This is inspiring :)

wow, thanks! this was a real challenge for me too - it's pretty rare that I do anything besides people or androids...

Me either. I never know where to begin! Do you have any tips or anything? :D

I guess the only way I manage to do it is to think of the composition, rather than what things actually are... so, I'm like, 'okay, so I need this kind of shape across there, and something filling that space, and something to lead the eye that way', and after that it's mostly just decoration and doodling.

Looking at your stuff, you seem to have a pretty solid idea of what you doing - or that just a clever disguise? :)

I really enjoy looking at your environments (some sci-fi environments really turn me on) but I'm a little bit worried about Nuut. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes.
:iconredkidone:
Nuut a tough girl. She can definitely look after herself.

I'm developing a short film script with a friend at the moment - hopefully we can get funding from the Screen Innovation fund in about August - then you'll really get to see what goes down!

by the by - I've just moved to Auckland! but I'm shooting back to the UK for 5 weeks this weekend - but when I get back, it'd be cool to catch up, I'd love to see more of the stuff you're doing...

very nice. the detail is great. the more i look at it, the more i find. :D
:iconexquire:
Hrm, that indeed would be cool! I'd love to see your originals/ sketches too. And arrange a big poster.

I saw some of your in-production work on your site yesterday, so that's what I'm commenting on above.

I really like the piece, so I hate to say it, but your perspective is crazy.

Crazy good :D no, you're right - I wanted the building on the right to have a sweeping, tapered shape that gives it a warped perspective, but the building on the left is all a bit askew, which kinda makes things fall apart... glad you like it, anyhow!
